Smoke Monday, S (Auburn)
Smoke Monday is already a fan-favorite in New Orleans, and he hasn’t even strapped up the pads yet. Smoke Monday is a 6-foot-3 safety who brings all the energy to the field with him. Monday is easily one of the best players who went undrafted, and the Saints got a steal when they agreed to terms with him following the Draft.
It blows my mind that Smoke Monday didn’t get drafted, especially considering that he does everything from the safety position really well. Monday can tackle, make plays on the football, and even rush the passer from the hybrid role. He was the anchor of the Auburn secondary, and he has the skillset to have a role in the Saints’ secondary as well.
Monday, while at Auburn, recorded 171 tackles, 17 tackles for a loss, six sacks, five interceptions, eight passes defended, one forced fumble, and three defensive touchdowns. Monday is one of the few undrafted free agents that has a legitimate shot at making the final roster, and he could even make an impact on special teams or step in for some injured players as the season goes on.
I’m a firm believer in Smoke Monday.
