Jack Koerner, DB (Iowa)
Jack Koerner is a versatile defensive back who has the ability to play either cornerback or safety at the highest level. Koerner, who stands a six-foot-tall and weighs 204 pounds, is your typical safety build and is a bit of a ball hawk in the secondary.
Koerner is not just a great athlete, but he’s also a feel-good story to watch this offseason in the Saints’ secondary.
In 2020, Koerner was in a serious boating accident that put him in the hospital, but he came away from that experience without any life-threatening or career-ending injuries. Everyone loves a good comeback story, and Koerner will have a great opportunity to write his own with the New Orleans Saints.
Koerner, at Iowa, racked up 216 tackles and six interceptions as a member of the Hawkeyes and he will be looking to bring that same energy to the Saints’ secondary.
As much as I appreciate a good redemption story, Koerner may not get that with the Saints if I’m being honest. New Orleans has too much talent in their secondary that is guaranteed to make the roster; so even with a strong offseason, the best-case scenario for Koerner is likely the practice squad.
