Derek Schweiger, OT (Iowa State)
Derek Schweiger may be the most NFL-ready offensive line free agent that New Orleans added to their roster following the draft. Schweiger, who stands at 6-foot-3 and weighs 325 pounds, thrives at offensive tackle but can bump to the inside and play guard as well.
Schweiger was the anchor of the Iowa State offensive line, and his high level of competition paired with his sustainable playstyle could give the Saints a true diamond in the rough. Schweiger is going to give some current backup offensive linemen in the Big Easy a run for their money, and there’s a good chance that he does just that.
Schweiger came into college football as a walk-on and eventually saw loads of success at his position. How incredible of a story would it be for Schweiger to go from walking on in college to then going undrafted to then making the Saints’ final roster?
He has a real shot at doing so due to his seemingly perfect stature and above-average athletic ability for his position.
