TE3: Nick Vannett
Needing to add a tight end or two last offseason, New Orleans made an underwhelming move with the signing of Nick Vannett, who has mostly been a backup or third-string option throughout his career.
Vannett missed the first half of the 2021 season due to injury and appeared in seven games while making two starts. He didn’t do much during that time, hauling in just nine catches for 133 yards and a touchdown.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Vannett didn’t end up making the team in 2022. The team would save $1.1 million if Vannett is released after June 1st, which is something to watch for especially with him not being a big factor last year.
TE4: Juwan Johnson
Juwan Johnson made the switch from wide receiver to tight end and established amazing chemistry with Jameis Winston last preseason. In his first game, he found the end zone twice and ended the year with four total touchdowns. He also recorded 13 catches for 159 yards through 14 games and two starts.
Just as I wouldn’t be shocked if Vannett didn’t make the roster, I wouldn’t be stunned in the slightest if Johnson was the TE3 on the depth chart and made some big plays in the 2022 season.
