Round 1: Pick 18 – Charles Cross, OT (Mississippi State)

This would be an awesome turn of events for the Saints, as they desperately need help at left tackle after Terron Armstead signed with Miami in free agency.

Charles Cross presents an option that could slide in and start at left tackle as a rookie. The plan, as of now, is probably to have James Hurst start at left tackle but if Cross joined the team, Hurst could either serve as the backup or he could start until Cross feels ready to take the field.

The Draft Network says that Cross’ best role will be going up against some of the best pass rushers in the league and he’ll be a wonderful pass protector. The downside to drafting him, however, is that he’s not a great run-blocker. That could mean he needs some time to sit and learn on the sidelines since the run game is a big part of New Orleans’ offense.

Either way, Cross fills a major position of need for the Saints and that’s why they should spend the No. 18 pick on the Mississippi State product.
