Round 2: Pick 49 – Zion Johnson, OG (Boston College)

In round two, the best available player when New Orleans is on the clock is Boston College’s Zion Johnson. This would give the Saints two offensive linemen with their first two picks and fans would be pretty perplexed if things played out this way.

To be honest, I wouldn’t be all that mad about it. The Saints have made it a point to have the best possible offensive line and they’d be doing that with their first two picks here.

Johnson started at left tackle and left guard during his Boston College days but he’s projected as a guard for his pro career. With McCoy sliding over to right guard after the Linderbaum pick, Johnson could battle Andrus Peat for the left guard job.

It’d be a waste of money for Peat not to start but at the same time, New Orleans needs to put the best possible players on their starting unit. If Johnson serves as a depth piece for his rookie season, that’d be okay too.
