Round 2: Pick 49 – Carson Strong, QB (Nevada)
I debated going with an offensive lineman here but ultimately, I took Carson Strong with the hope that he can turn into the Saints’ franchise quarterback in the foreseeable future.
The knock on Strong is that he’s not mobile at all and these days, mobile quarterbacks are the hip new thing. That’s not how it used to be, however, as Drew Brees himself was very much a pocket passer so we know the Saints offense can operate well with a quarterback like that.
In 12 games this season, Strong tossed for 4,186 yards, 36 touchdowns, and eight interceptions for the Wolfpack. I mentioned how he’s not a runner and that’s evidenced by his -208 rushing yards and not even getting into the end zone on a QB sneak.
Strong’s style of play isn’t trendy with how the NFL is now but the Saints could make it work. He’s probably not someone they should throw out there right away but maybe by 2023, Carson Strong could be the starting quarterback of the New Orleans Saints.
