4. Jake Ferguson
The Saints never went into a ball game last season feeling confident about their tight end position. Adam Trautman is a good player and hard worker but he isn’t scaring anyone when he steps onto the field.
Overall, his 2021 wasn’t very impressive. He reeled in just two touchdown passes and 263 yards. It’s time for the Saints to move on. One player who opened up a few eyes at the senior bowl this weekend was tight end, Jake Ferguson, out of Wisconsin.
Admittedly, his season wasn’t that great. His final year as a college player saw him put up just 450 yards and three scores. But, when given more opportunities like at the Senior Bowl, he balled out. He finished the game with three catches for 62 yards and a touchdown.
Ferguson isn’t a burner but he has excellent hands and he’s a physical player. Not only is he a reliable pass catcher, but he’s solid in run blocking, something Alvin Kamara should love.
He isn’t the flashiest player in the world and we don’t envision him making any Pro Bowls but he’ll make the Saints a much better team overall.
