New Orleans Saints Passing Leaders – 2. Archie Manning (21,734)
Saints Quarterback from 1971-1982
The Saints had the second overall pick in the 1971 NFL Draft and the pick was a no-brainer for them. They went with Archie Manning out of Ole Miss and despite him being a respectable quarterback, the team never was successful.
The first eight years of Manning’s career resulted in losing seasons and in his ninth season, the team finished with a .500 record. Manning did miss the entire 1976 season due to an injury and the team was predictably very bad without him under center.
Midway through the 1982 season, Manning was traded to the Oilers where he played for the next year and a half before finishing his career in Minnesota.
After 11 years with the Saints, Manning threw for 21,734 yards, 115 touchdowns, and 154 interceptions. It was unfortunate that the team around Manning was so bad during his entire career because he truly was a special quarterback.
