2. Super Bowl winning season

The New Orleans Saints have been around for well over half a century. Although they’ve gained a reputation as one of the more respectable franchises in the league, that wasn’t always the case.

The Saints are almost 100 games under .500 during the regular season, putting together a record of 396-450-5. They’re also just 10-13 in the postseason. While those aren’t impressive numbers by any stretch of the imagination, the Saints are undefeated in the Super Bowl.

Winning it all in 2009 didn’t come easy. Sean Payton strolled into battle with quarterback Drew Brees by his side to take on fellow all-timer Peyton Manning in the Super Bowl. Following a four-point deficit at halftime, Payton rallied the troops, resulting in a 14 point win.

After struggling with consistency, failing to lead his squad to the postseason in two of his first three years as the head man, Payton had officially broken through the glass ceiling. Not only did Payton solidify himself as a great coach, but that Super Bowl ring set the stage for a Hall of Fame level career.
