Finances aren’t the only issues when it comes to Armstead’s potential future with the Saints. The left tackle missed all but eight starts this past season and he’s yet to be healthy in any of his nine seasons in the organization. That’s why it might be smart to let him walk in free agency, as Jonny Camer of Who Dat Dish detailed a few weeks ago.
If Armstead is no longer a Saint when the dust of the offseason settles, who could New Orleans get to man the left side of the offensive line? Let’s take a look at some potential replacements for Armstead should he leave in free agency and NOLA is tasked with finding a new left tackle.
5. Ryan Ramczyk
This seems unlikely but if all else fails, New Orleans could opt to move right tackle Ryan Ramczyk over to the left side of the line. Ramczyk, a former first-round pick in 2017, more than earned his five-year $96 million extension that he received last summer.
When this deal was made, there was some thought that a potential move to left tackle could be in the cards for Ramczyk. With how dominant he is at right tackle, however, I wouldn’t put too much stock into this happening.
It is, however, something to keep in mind, as finding a replacement right tackle is “easier” than finding a replacement at left tackle.
