The New Orleans Saints elected to spend their first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft on offensive lineman Cesar Ruiz. It was a puzzling decision at the time and has proven a year and a half later to be the wrong choice.

Ruiz played center at Michigan and the Saints have him at right guard, which has been a rollercoaster. He spent some time at center when Erik McCoy went down earlier this season and it didn’t go well. He’s continued to struggle since moving back to right guard and it’s clear this was a bad pick by NOLA.

These six players were still on the board when the Saints took Ruiz. While fans might have been angry with some of these players being the pick at the time, no one would be complaining right now, assuming they brought the same fire to New Orleans that they have for their respective teams.

I tried not to dig too far into the draft since we still need to tackle players the Saints could have had instead of Zack Baun and Adam Trautman, which are two separate articles for another day.

We’ll go in order from where these players were drafted. Keep in mind that Ruiz went No. 24 overall and then note where these guys went off the board.
