The NOLA Saints are already thin at wide receiver and they’re likely going to lose Tre’Quan Smith in free agency. The UCF product hasn’t been the player New Orleans was hoping for when they spent a third-round pick on him in the 2018 NFL Draft so no one will be the least bit surprised if he signs elsewhere during the offseason.

New Orleans could opt to move on from Michael Thomas this offseason as well but even if they keep him, they’ll still need a WR2 to play alongside him. Smith clearly isn’t that guy and the Saints can find their next star receiver in the 2022 NFL Draft.

As of now, NOLA holds the No. 11 pick and while they have a favorable schedule for the rest of the season, I’d be okay with them losing out so they can have a top 10 pick and get one of the better receivers in the class.

Fortunately, even if the Saints finish with seven or eight wins, they’d still be in line to land a very good receiver thanks to the strong receiver class and not as many teams needing receivers next season. Here are six college prospects the Saints could target to replace Smith for the 2022 season.
