1. Pete Werner (22)

With the Zack Baun pick already looking like a mistake last year, the Saints spent a second-rounder on Pete Werner, a linebacker out of Ohio State. Werner didn’t play on defense in the first two games, but since making his defensive debut in Week 3, the dude has been unstoppable.

Through seven games and five starts, Werner has tallied 38 tackles with three coming for lost yardage. In Weeks 4, 5, and 7, Werner had at least five tackles made and was flying around the field.

While the Baun pick is looking worse by the week (he doesn’t even play on defense now), the Werner pick has made up for it. He’s filling the role that the Saints anticipated Baun having when they took a third-round flier on him in 2020.

The best news is that Werner is already looking dominant and he’s only 22 years old and won’t turn 23 until June. The Saints found themselves a sideline-to-sideline linebacker in the second round and his production won’t go to waste in the Big Easy.
