5 takeaways from Day 8 of training camp

1. Offense wins the day*
*We’re not sure if it’s because the offense was actually on point or the defense was just lacking in coverage.
Both Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill excelled in full-team sessions today, with both QBs completing a good chunk of their passes. That being said, the secondary was without Marshon Lattimore and Marcus Williams, who were watching from the sidelines.
Really good full-team sessions for both Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill, with some surprisingly wide-open passes. Defense clearly won yesterday, not the case today. https://t.co/Kv0zTSzAe0

Today’s practice observation: Either the Saints’ passing offense is the second coming of the Greatest Show on Turf or the Saints’ passing defense is in for another 2015-like long season. 🤔

Not a single throw for Winston or Hill was contested, and while that makes the quarterbacks look like reincarnations of Drew Brees, it doesn’t speak well of the backup secondary unit.
The reporters at camp didn’t name anyone in particular but did notice how wide open the Saints QBs were – the defense gave them too much space and time to throw, which could explain why they made so many passes.
Of course, that’s the glass-half-empty attitude.
Next. 3 Saints whose stock rose significantly. dark
New Orleans’ offense will continue improving with more reps and player chemistry, but maybe don’t expect Winston or Hill to be that open when the season rolls around. It’s only training camp, and we’re just trying to keep things real.
