It’s been over a week since the New Orleans Saints took the field for their first day of training camp. Plenty has changed since then. The camp stock market continues to bring surprises, some more pleasant than others, and no one’s roster spot is safe from the eagle eyes of Sean Payton and his clipboard-wielding team of coaches.

Let’s see what the Saints had in store for us in practice No. 8.

5. Kwon Alexander will fit in just fine

Earlier this week, linebacker Kwon Alexander signed a one-year deal with the Saints, and New Orleans couldn’t have asked for a better offseason bargain.

Alexander returns to the Big Easy after an injury-plagued season that saw him make seven starts for the Saints. He was a dominant force when healthy, though: he recorded 27 combined tackles, forced one fumbles, and broke up four passes.

Alexander’s presence already has Demario Davis pumped up, and he also takes a load off Malcolm Jenkins and C.J. Gardner-Johnson, who can now play more fluid, versatile roles in the back. That’s not to say Zach Baun and Pete Werner won’t get their opportunities, and after Andrew Dowell’s surprising showing in camp, he could feature in the defense, too.

For now, fingers crossed Alexander makes a full recovery (he already has, according to….himself) and gets back to doing what he does best.
