New Orleans Saints newcomers who could start – No. 1: Pete Werner

The Saints have their fair share of question marks at linebacker and Pete Werner is one of those question marks. He was a second-round pick in this year’s draft and the Saints took him because of their uncertainty at the linebacker position.

Zack Baun didn’t have a promising rookie season and now the Saints will be relying on him and Werner to step in and help Demario Davis wreak havoc. The Saints had Kwon Alexander in for a visit last week and if a reunion happens there, Werner might not be a starter.

If things remain as they are right now, Werner should be a starter come the first week of the season. The Saints are going to rely on Baun more as a pass-rusher and use Werner as more of the run-stopping linebacker, which hopefully keeps their defense in good shape moving forward.

Saints fans are excited about Werner and what he can bring to this defense. Hopefully, he can thrive in a starting role.
