New Orleans Saints to Protect – No. 3: Erik McCoy

The third member of the Saints’ offensive line to make an appearance on the protected players list is Erik McCoy. The former second-round pick out of Texas A&M is entering his third year as an NFL center and he’s been wonderful for the Saints so far.

This is another pick that showed how serious the Saints are when it comes to solidifying their offensive line and McCoy fit right in with the existing group. PFF gave McCoy a grade of 70.1 in 2020, as he allowed just one sack in his 1,073 snaps.

If the Saints want to remain a contender despite not having Brees as their quarterback, their offensive line has to remain at the top of the pack. Protecting McCoy is another way for them to ensure that happens.

At this point, the Saints have protected half of their offensive line and there’s one more guy we haven’t discussed yet. More on that in a bit though.
