There’s no denying the New Orleans Saints should be in the market for a quarterback. They sadly watched future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees retire. Brees is still the holder of several NFL records.

The team should be hopeful that 27-year-old Jameis Winston can captain them to their fifth straight NFC South title. However, Winston is on a one-year deal, and Taysom Hill‘s contract is now fully voidable if that’s a path the team would want to go down.

The New Orleans Saints may be looking at a mid-round quarterback, and the options should be endless for Mickey Loomis and his staff.

They could be looking at another quarterback issue next season.

If Winston doesn’t sign a long-term deal because the Saints are limited in cap space, they could need yet another replacement. That’s why drafting a mid-round quarterback could be a smart move for the franchise.

The options will be there, and while Payton said it wasn’t a “must,” the team should at least be looking at those NFL-ready quarterbacks that could thrive at the next level. After all, Tom Brady was a seventh-round pick.

That said, let’s dive into three mid-round targets the Saints should consider.
