Saints potential No. 2 wide receiver: Marquez Callaway
This is our last internal candidate, but Marquez Callaway is a good one.
It would tough choosing between Callaway and All-Pro returner Deonte Harris as to who will breakout as an offensive star this season. Given Harris’ limited snaps last season, if either, I’d expect it to be Callaway.
Callaway played in 11 games last season and started 3. He dealt with some injuries which hampered his ability to play more often. The second-year stud should return to the team at 100 percent in 2021.
In those 11 games, the formerly undrafted free agent rookie put up 213 yards on 27 targets and 21 receptions. He had a solid 77.8 percent catch rate which, although in limited quantity, did top Thomas’s. Along those lines, Callaway didn’t have a single drop.
“Marquez Callaway, I’m telling you guys, you better remember his name,” Emmanuel Sanders said. “He’s not even close to hitting his peak.”
A freakishly athletic 6-foot-2, Callaway could be set for a massive breakout season in 2021. If I had to choose, it’s Callaway to takes the reigns of that No. 2 receiver in the Big Easy moving forward.
