He should be able to drastically reduce his turnovers

The reason Winston said no to larger offers and decided to join the NFC South-reigning Saints last offseason was because of the culture. Winston might have been a better fit and an instant starter elsewhere, but he clearly wanted to learn behind a legend.

He got that season sitting behind Brees much as Bridgewater did before heading to Carolina. Now, he’ll be hoping to take the team Mickey Loomis has put together and win a fifth-straight NFC South title.

Winston needed to learn behind a future Hall of Famer because he threw a league-high 30 interceptions in 2019. Sure, he was asked to do too much in Tampa Bay, but he needed to be more accurate.

Let’s also remember that Winston had LASIK surgery this past offseason, so hopefully, that helps his accuracy as well. Either way, Payton clearly believes that he’s not the type of quarterback that would toss 30 picks.

With the Saints’ schemes, it seems like if that gets to be a problem they’ll involve Kamara and or Taysom Hill more, but hopefully, it doesn’t get to that point.
