Let Jared Cook go

Cook has had his share of ups and downs in the Big Easy.

At times the jumbo-sized Cook looks like an unstoppable pass-catching machine, demonstrating his freakish athleticism and good route running. At other times Cook looks like a guy who forgot the play call or how to even catch the football.

With a salary of $7.5 million this season and a nasty cap situation looming, Cook would have to take a pay cut to stay around with the emergence of Adam Trautman and the potential that the Saints find another tight end in free agency or the draft.

With Cook’s recent struggles well documented an amicable split might be a win-win for both parties.

At 33 years old and with the future in New Orleans looking a bit murky with the speculated end of Brees tenure a team-friendly deal might not be something Cook is willing to do.

Better to let the big man walk and test the waters while looking to get younger and more consistent at the position.
