Marcus Williams

This one is painful to think about.

While Malcolm Jenkins has played well on the team, losing Marcus Williams this offseason would be brutal. Chauncey Gardner-Johnson would then be asked to step up or the team would have to bring in another hard-hitting safety.

This season, Williams has 59 combined tackles, 3 interceptions, and 7 pass deflections. Saints Wire’s John Sigler wrote on how Pro Football Focus graded Williams the fourth-best in tackling efficiency in 2020.

He’s that good as a tackler and has reduced his missed tackle rate from over 14 to under five percent. That’s impressive and something that should be noted for the safety that was in the team’s incredible 2017 draft class.

Williams is good enough to get a big-time contract, and given the Saints’ long-term deals that they committed to this past offseason, it may not be a fit that repeats itself.
