Tre’Quan Smith

The New Orleans Saints have given wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith enough opportunities to be a productive member of this offense. So far this season, he hasn’t done enough to keep his role on the roster.

Despite Michael Thomas missing more than half the season, Smith hasn’t stepped up. Now, he has played an impactful role in a handful of games. Earlier in the season, Smith caught at least four passes in five of six games.

That was his most efficient few games, snagging 24 receptions and almost 300 yards. Smith played over 75 percent of the team’s snaps in each of those six games and has only hit that mark twice since.

As the emergency of Marquez Callaway has hurt Smith’s snap count, the Saints have tended to look elsewhere, something they’ll likely do in free agency or the draft as well. In all likelihood, Smith will wind down his contract and then hit free agency.

He still has time, but the clock is ticking.
