Number Four: Mike Burton

Mike Burton has been a bit of a journeyman in his NFL career thus far but is looking to replace recently retired Zach Line as the team’s starting fullback.

Burton, 28, has played on multiple teams including the Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears, and Washington Redskins and was never used the same way he is hoping to be used in New Orleans.

Burton has the potential to be the next great New Orleans fullback, a specialty the Saints have nailed over the years. Burton, in his career, has recorded nine receptions for 53 yards and one touchdown.

Although those numbers seem terrible, he has only been targeted 13 times in his career. Burton was primarily used as a blocker, and a really good one at that.

Burton has also played for two of the teams the Saints will play in 2020 and could provide valuable insight to schemes and strategies the opposition uses.

If Burton wins the starting fullback job over Rickey Ortiz this offseason, I fully expect him to be utilized in a way he has never been before and turn into yet another weapon on the high-powered Saints offense.
