Drew Brees (QB)

This one should be obvious, the Saints can not afford to lose the likes of Drew Brees behind the ship if they want a chance at winning the next Super Bowl, at least not for any prolonged length of time.

Last year, the team lost Brees for five games. When announced that he had surgery on his thumb and that former Saint Teddy Bridgewater would be taking over, people were in shock. Drew Brees doesn’t get hurt.

While Bridgewater came in and won five games, all other facets of the team played at the highest level they had all season. The Saints signed Jameis Winston to fill the role of Bridgewater in the upcoming season.

However, I am not convinced that in his first year as a backup that Winston can come in like Bridgewater and win five straight. That is why the Saints need Brees to remain healthy for a chance at their second Super Bowl before he retires.
