The New Orleans Saints agreed to terms with former Jets running back and wide receiver Ty Montgomery on Saturday afternoon.

The Saints continue to be active throughout the offseason but in the value section of the market this time.

The Saints have proven throughout the entire offseason that they want to bring in veteran talent to help compete with the young cornerstones already set in place, and the signing of Montgomery is yet another example of that.

Think Emmanuel Sanders. Think Malcolm Jenkins. Both were brought in to enhance units, but they’ll end up doing so much more to help develop the young stars on the roster. While not the most seasoned vet, Montgomery will help in that area.

Not lacking depth at running back, the Saints likely brought in Montgomery to mitigate the risk of any potential Alvin Kamara injury. After his few last season, the team may find some relief in having another capable back on the roster.

Ty Montgomery is actually a very interesting signing and here are three reasons why it’s a good pick up for New Orleans.
