Number Three: The Carolina Panthers — THE HEAVY FAVORITE
The Carolina Panthers fired head coach Ron Rivera and hired Matt Rhule to take his place. Following a private workout with Cam Newton, it appeared as if both sides would remain in Carolina.
Today, the Panthers and Newton had a fall out and they are allowing Newton to seek a trade destination. The Panthers have been heavily interested in Teddy Bridgewater since the hiring of Matt Rhule.
Bridgewater, 27, already knows the teams in the NFC South and would have a seemingly simple transition if he picks the Panthers as his destination to continue his career. The Panthers, however, are seemingly entering a rebuilding mode as they have released several key players throughout the offseason and are seemingly trying to make a Matt Rhule-built team in Carolina.
Bridgewater going to the Panthers would be a great fit, but I’m not sure Teddy wants to play for a team that won’t be able to adequately protect him and struggle to keep pace with the New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (who are on the rise).
The veteran signal-caller would provide the Panthers with some much-needed stability at the quarterback position and they can afford to give him the deal he wants.
Teddy Bridgewater to the Panthers makes perfect sense but the lack of competitiveness right away could steer Bridgewater in a different direction.
