The New Orleans Saints need help on the edge, and Marquise Goodwin could be the player to take them to the next level.

The San Francisco 49ers announced that Marquise Goodwin is on the trading block. It makes too much sense for the Saints not to pursue him. Here are three reasons why the New Orleans Saints should pursue Goodwin and how it will impact the organization.

No. 1: The Saints need a wide receiver two

There’s no question what one of the biggest needs for the New Orleans Saints this offseason is on the edge, and it takes a special wide receiver to compliment the stellar services of Offensive Player of the Year Michael Thomas.

Marquise Goodwin would be a perfect fit in the New Orleans Saints offense and could be used in a similar way Ted Ginn Jr. was. Ginn hits the free-agent market this offseason after a mostly unproductive three-year stint in New Orleans.

Ginn was known as their guy to burn defenders deep and stretch opposing defenses to allow space in the inside for guys like Michael Thomas and Tre’Quan Smith to thrive. Goodwin would be great in that role and has been in that role his entire career.

Goodwin, 29, ran a 4.27 40-yard dash which, at the time, was the third-fastest 40-yard dash in NFL Combine history.

The speedster was also a track and field star where he was named a four-time All-American and won two NCAA Championships. Goodwin is so fast that he made the 2012 US Olympics team. You can’t deny that speed would help the Saints’ offense.

Adding a player with elite speed to one of the fastest scoring offenses in the NFL would be electric.
