An elite offense

The New Orleans Saints haven’t even come close to their potential offensively.

With Drew Brees hitting stride at the right time, the Saints have been marching down the field on the majority of possessions. It’s also due to Michael Thomas who just continues to wow fans with how he finds separation on almost every snap.

The wild card for the postseason is the running game.

The Saints could be taking on a few elite defenses in San Francisco, Seattle or Green Bay. Either way, those coaches will make it a priority to stop Michael Thomas, who is on pace for the NFL’s single-season receptions record.

That’s where Jared Cook and Alvin Kamara can step up. Ted Ginn Jr. and/or Tre’Quan Smith will also have ample opportunity to create a name for themselves. Those four will all play impactful roles in lightening the load that Thomas and Brees carry.

At the end of the day, it’s Alvin Kamara that must step up.

He’s yet to find his rhythm this season. He has just one rushing touchdown through 15 weeks. He had 14 last season. This is also his first season not representing the Saints in the Pro Bowl. Kamara is a talent, and if he gets going, the Saints offense will take another leap forward.

The Saints offense as a whole is tied for fifth in points per game at 27.
