Safety – Marcus Williams

Marcus Williams was left off of the 2020 Pro Bowl roster at the free safety position. He was ousted for Cardinals Budda Baker and Bears Eddie Jackson. Because of that, he made his way on to the top ten Pro Bowl snubs released by ESPN.

Marcus Williams has 51 tackles on the season. He adds four interceptions for 56 yards and a touchdown as well as a forced fumble. In terms of his Saints’ counterpart at strong safety, Vonn Bell, he has been just as good if not a better asset to the Saints’ defense.

In terms of tackles, Budda Baker has been having a stellar year, already totaling 125 combo tackles — that is almost 75 more tackles than Williams. However, Baker has yet to record a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, or even an interception at the safety position.

Eddie Jackson has only 56 tackles on the year and one interception. He also tacks on one forced fumble but that is not enough to favor him over what Marcus Williams has done this year. Budda Baker has a rightful case; Eddie Jackson does not.
