This was an electric shootout, and the New Orleans Saints came up just short.

The New Orleans Saints finished what could be considered one of the best games of the year against the 49ers. The stakes of this game were high, with both teams having a chance to be on the fast track to the number one seed in the NFC going into the playoffs.

Both teams demonstrated impressive offensive ability, but in the end, it was San Francisco that came out on top.

With a final score of 48 to 46, the game came down to only a few key plays and moments that decided the end result.

Although there were some definite highlights in this game like Michael Thomas (as always) and Brees having a career game, there were some definite weaknesses. There were a few players, a few matchups and a few plays that stood out that cost the team this game in the end.

These are all areas that the team can afford to improve upon and take away lessons from Sunday’s matchup.

Because the offense performed nearly perfect and did their part to make this game close, each of the items listed in this piece will be regarding the defensive side of the ball.
