Wide receiver depth

This topic seems like a dead horse that we continue to beat to death.

But, the Saints keep giving us a reason to be concerned.

The talent that the wide receivers hold outside of Michael Thomas is pitiful. They seem roughly two to three targets per game for roughly 30 yards if that. Thomas is having a historic season, but he is having it because he is the only wide receiver the Saints have.

Ted Ginn, Jr.

Ted Ginn’s highest receiving game came in week 1 where he saw seven targets for 101 yards.

Not bad, right?

Since then he hasn’t caught more than three passes in a week and hasn’t eclipsed 50 yards. He has been nothing short of mediocre wide receiver No. 3. The veteran doesn’t look like he has much life left in his career.

Tre’Quan Smith

Smith has been injured from weeks 2 through week 9. He returned in week 10. In the five games he has played, Tre’Quan Smith hasn’t caught more than three passes in a game and has only reached the endzone twice this season.

I can only assume that the reason the Saints’ didn’t trade at the deadline for a WR or put a waiver in for Josh Gordon is that they believe in second-year player Tre’ Quan Smith. But it does not look like he is going to pan out as of this season.
