Vernon Hargreaves, cornerback — Claimed by Texans

This pick up is almost obvious after Hargreaves was waived by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier this week and New Orleans Saints start cornerback Marhson Lattimore went down with a hamstring injury on Sunday.

Hargreaves was benched on the struggling Buccaneers defense after tallying 39 tackles and one interception for a touchdown in nine games. While Hargreaves comes with just over a $9 million paycheck, it will be worth it for the New Orleans Saints.

Saints backup cornerbacks, Patrick Robinson and PJ Williams, have totaled three tackles this season. The comparison to Hargreaves is almost unfair because of how little they played. In that case, let’s put his numbers up against Eli Apple‘s numbers.

Apple has 32 tackles, one pass defend, and one forced fumble through the first half of the season. Hargreaves boasts 39 tackles, four pass defends, one interception (for a touchdown), and one fumble recovery.

Not only does Hargreaves make a case for competing with Eli Apple for a starting cornerback position, but especially with Marshon Lattimore banged up, Hargeaves could add the talent the New Orleans Saints need in the secondary.
