Preston Brown, linebacker

The Cincinnati Bengals extended Preston Brown’s contract to a $16.5 million salary with $4.8 million in guaranteed money back in March of 2019. Brown missed the last seven games in 2018 with a knee injury, and he has not looked himself in 2019 with the dismal Cincinnati Bengals team.

According to ESPN, “Someone needs to step up and be a leader there,” Zac Taylor [Bengals head coach] said. “We’ve been waiting on that and shuffling the lineup around, waiting on someone to step up and be consistent and be a leader in that room. We’re still waiting on that.”

Halfway through the 2019 season, Brown has 52 tackles (which is still on pace to surpass 100 for the season) to go along with two interceptions and four pass defends. In his last season with Buffalo in 2017, Preston Brown tallied 144 tackles.

The talent is still there, and the Cincinnati team is just so bad that Brown didn’t succeed well in that defensive core and in an effort to effect change, the Bengals released Brown.

AJ Klein, the New Orleans Saints linebacker, only has 47 tackles on the season and has shown flashes of being completely untrustworthy in the passing game. Last Sunday, he went as far as getting outrun by the Falcons injured quarterback, Matt Ryan.

Brown could add extreme security to AJ Klein or make a major impact on the New Orleans Saints linebacker core.
