New Orleans Saints: 3 late-day trade deadline deals to consider

Robby Anderson
The Jets have made it known that they’re willing to trade Robby Anderson. While he’s a solid receiver, there’s a reason they don’t value retaining him. Anderson, a free agent this upcoming summer, will want to be paid.
He’s good enough to demand money, and he’s good enough to get paid by some team. Neither the Jets nor the Saints will want to pay him. That’s going to be an issue and one that is easy to forecast.
That being said, Anderson shouldn’t be valued at more than a fourth-round pick for a team that won’t be re-signing him. The Saints don’t have a 2020 second-round pick so their third would be as high as they go.
Anderson has just one three-digit receiving yard game this season. He’s also not eclipsed 20 yards in three games, but with the Jets oftentimes without Sam Darnold, it’s hard to blame Anderson for many of these performances.
When he’s with a capable quarterback, he’s played well, and he could be a great threat over the middle. But, is the margin between Anderson and a healthy Tre’Quan Smith really that big? That’s one reason the Saints shouldn’t trade for Anderson.
Then again, how many games and Smith and Kieth Kirkwood played in 2019? To answer that, it’s three. The Saints could use another threat, but again, it has to be at the right price.
