Latavius Murray still has it

The Saints “next man up” mentality has been put to good use early on in 2019. Not only has Drew Brees went down, but Alvin Kamara has not missed time as well. Even Jared Cook was ruled out against Chicago.

That’s three key Saints that weren’t able to take the field. Jonah Hill, Teddy Bridgewater, and more notably Latavius Murray stepped up in Week 7. Murray was the most impressive of the three, totaling over 100 yards on the ground.

Although his long on the ground was just 17 yards, Murray had the full trust of the coaching staff as he notched over 30 touches. It’s rare for superstar running back Alvina Kamara to even see that type of usage.

Murray wasn’t only a threat on the ground, but he was a capable receiver as well.

At the end of the day, Murray was able to gain 150 all-purpose yards and get in the end zone twice. Murray, the 6-foot-3, 29-year-old, ended with 32 touches in Week 7, nine fewer than the 41 he had through the first six weeks combined.

He still has it. He can still compete, and this performance may have bought in a few more snaps during future regular-season games.
