More separation in positional battles
As I detailed yesterday, the New Orleans Saints, like most other NFL teams, are dealing with positional battles that’ll span the course of the preseason. The Saints matchup with Los Angeles will be another ground in which players can create separation in their respective battle.
A few players to keep an eye on will be Simmie Cobbs Jr., Tre’Quan Smith and Keith Kirkwood in the third-string wide receiver race. With Ted Ginn Jr. and Michael Thomas clearly the top-two options, the Drew Brees-led Saints will need a third steady threat out wide.
Another race to watch will be at cornerback. As aforementioned, Washington and Williams will be gunning for the spot behind Apple. Given the Saints lacking coverage in Week 1, it’ll be interesting to see who breaks excels in Week 2.
The offensive and defensive lines already have their starters named and will likely continue to round out their depth in Week 2. The running back position also seems likely set with Latavius Murray behind Alvin Kamara and Dwayne Washington as the No. 3.
That being said, expect at least some movement in these positional battles.
