No. 2 running back

As aforementioned, no one except the starting unit is safe when it comes to who is making the 53-man roster. That said, the final battle to watch for is Latavius Murray vs Dwayne Washington for the spot behind Alvin Kamara.

Murray is two years removed from having two straight 1,000-plus total yard seasons. While he’s certainly dropped off and is now 29, Murray is a bigger back at 6-foot-3 and will look to replicate the production by Mark Ingram.

However, Washington is a similar size, standing 6-foot-1 and weighing over 220 pounds. Washington signed with the Saints practice squad early last season and saw the most carries of a running back during the Saints first preseason game.

Neither of the two backs was overly impressive against Minnesota.

Washington totaled eight carries for 36 yards. His impressive play at practice and during training camp was rewarded and Washington easily cemented himself as a top-three option. He’ll be gunning for that second spot throughout the rest of the preseason.
