The NFL Draft is three weeks away. Let’s let the pure excitement and homestretch prep begin with Who Dat Dish Podcast’s first mock draft for 2018.

I may be alone on this thought, but it’s pointless to make mock drafts before the Free Agency period even begins. The needs and wants for teams can be addressed in the pool of players with expired or voided contracts early-March every offseason. Front offices are more ahead of the game than any publication covering the league. They’ll solve their roster issues in multiple ways, many before Draft Week is even upon us.

These early mock drafts aren’t useless at all. They can still be used as a stepping stone, or a bench mark for this year’s draft process in the eyes of many people. However, they’re pointless due to their premature notion of need for teams, and speculation of trades/signings involving picks. Now that free agency is slowing down, and focus on draft prospects is picking up, its the perfect time for my 2018 Mock Draft 1.0.

The Saints have been quite busy so far this offseason. They were able to lock down Drew Brees for the next two years, which was the biggest box on their checklist. New Orleans also picked up key defensive free agents, including veterans Kurt Coleman (safety) and Demario Davis (linebacker).

The Saints brought back a couple of familiar faces as well: tight end Benjamin Watson and cornerback Patrick Robinson. Both had multi-year stints with the Saints, and Robinson is coming off a Super Bowl campaign with Philadelphia.

However, not every gap has been filled on the roster. The Saints still seek starters, back ups and even beyond that. Now, the draft is in the foreground. If it’s anything like last year for New Orleans, a boat load of talent will be docking in the Big Easy come May. With eight selections in this draft, it’s tough to narrow down the needs of the team into certain prospects I’d like to see the Saints grab at their particular slots. Here’s the first version of my 2018 Saints Mock Drafts!
