Saints Free Agency

The 2018 New Orleans Saints are making all the right moves

And the ones kept

The Saints did hang onto a few players too. Depth was kept in defensive end George Johnson. Long snapper Zach Wood was retained. Probably the second biggest re-signing of a current player was the reported two-year deal for Alex Okafor. Okafor was just hitting his stride with the Black and Gold when an injury ended his season.

More from Who Dat Dish

There are several players who are unrestricted free agents the Saints will likely keep around once the dust settles on the free agency. And maybe even after the draft. They will likely try to resign Josh LeRibeus and one of the fullbacks, either Zach Line or John Kuhn. There are several others who may be around but will be competing to stay on the team.

Then there are the curious cases of some odd players. Willie Snead was lowballed on a tender. The Saints are basically saying they want him back and will sign him for just under $2 million a year. If someone else wants him, the Saints still could match the offer. However, if another team offers more than the Saints are willing to pay (ostensibly not much more than the $1.9 million the tender is based on), then Snead may sign there. And the Saints receive no compensation.

Brandon Coleman is a now a free agent. While the Saints likely wouldn’t mind resigning him, they are willing to allow him to hit the market. They likely feel the market for him will be low and they will be able to resign him for less than the low tender they put up for Snead.

Also Delvin Breaux was not tendered. Marshon Lattimore and Ken Crawley made Breaux expendable. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Sterling Moore given a deal by training camp.
