Opening video, coin toss, offensive line

New opening video

For those who can stomach sitting through a Saints game, the new pregame video that plays as an intro for the announcement of Saints players is fantastic. It shows Saints players and fans in a collage of sorts with scenes of the city. Very cool.

The coin toss

We won the coin toss and elected to defer. With this defense. I know it’s often a ploy of coaching to put your defense on the field first to excite your fans and get your home stadium into the game. But how much sense does it make when you have THIS defense?

And you’re playing the Patriots offense, traditionally great? It backfired and they marched the ball down the field and scored on the opening possession, taking the fans out from go. Plus, in a tight game, that could serve to give the opponents an extra offensive possession…

Offensive line changes

In what would have seemed to be a smart move, the Saints made a change to their offensive line. They moved Andrus Peat from left guard out to left tackle. They moved rookie Ryan Ramczyk to right tackle and moved Senio Kelemete from the outside back inside where he’s more comfortable. While the line played better than it had against Minnesota after Zach Strief went down injured, it was still porous and allowed Drew Brees to be sacked once and hurried often.
