Arthur Maulet is my favorite to make the squad as an undrafted free agent. The native of New Orleans came to the Saints as an undrafted rookie free agent out of the University of Memphis.
Ultimately, the road back to New Orleans was a long journey. In fact, there were many doubters that Arthur Maulet would even make it this far. Growing up in the Ninth Ward taught him some hard life lessons. He bounced around living with different family members but kept focus with the road in front.
"He knew he had a rough start and he knew that some situations weren’t really fair for him. He heard a lot of people telling him he was never going to be anything. He heard it so much, he built a wall. It seems like when we took him in, he started breaking that wall down. -Defensive Back Coach Donald Cox"
His drive and fierce dedication helped him move past his challenges and become a star at Memphis. Donald Cox nicknamed him “Tyga” because of his physicality at Bonnabel High School where Maulet went to school in Metairie, LA.
The good thing for Maulet is the position is wide open at cornerback. Maulet is undersized at only 5-foot-11 and weighing just 190 lbs. By the same token, he’s always been the underdog. As a consequence, that chip on his shoulder may give him the edge to make this team.
