Not the deepest list ever, but a fun one nonetheless. The best cornerbacks in New Orleans Saints history.
As part of Who Dat Dish’s Top-5 list trend, I took a look at the greatest cornerbacks in New Orleans Saints history. With the addition of Marshon Lattimore in the 2017 NFL Draft and the signing of Delvin Breaux in the 2015 offseason, New Orleans’ cornerback corps seems to be looking up lately.
However, things haven’t always been so bright in that department. In fact, the past 6+ seasons have been historically awful for the Saints secondary. This yields terrible memories and more jeering towards the defense than any cheering. And, because of that, not too many great or legacy-filled players come to mind in the discussion for Saints all-time cornerbacks.
Most top-100 Saints of all-time lists don’t even include more than two cornerbacks. It’s a depleted memory in the history books for the Saints, unfortunately. The search for the best cornerbacks took a lot more research than any other position, I would presume. I had to search for the high times in the history of the team to find the best of the best; hence the reason for over half of the list to come from the Super Bowl winning team.
With all of that being said, I still managed to make a top-5 list. It was challenging, but most importantly, it was a blast to research, debate, and create. Three of these players were part of New Orleans’ lone-Super Bowl winning roster. One was a free safety for a majority of his playing time. The other was one of the first players to suit up in a Saints uniform. Here are the top-5 cornerbacks in New Orleans Saints history.
