Reuben Foster, LB, Alabama

Due to Foster’s combine incident at the hospital (and his “diluted drug test sample”), his draft stock has fallen just a bit in recent weeks. Once projected as the second overall pick, Foster could fall into Mickey Loomis’ hands on Thursday. If here’s there, Foster would be an absolute steal for a linebacker-hungry Saints team.

Foster is NFL-ready in countless areas. His body (6’0″, 229 pounds, 32 3/8″ arm length), leadership (defensive captain for Alabama) and winning mentality (participated in back-to-back Championship Games) will all translate beautifully in the league. You can’t teach speed or raw talent, and Foster has plenty of both. His fit with the Saints’ scheme would not only work, but it would become one of the biggest improvements to that defense Loomis could find.

With all of that being said, there are slight concerns with Foster’s instincts and recent off-the-field issues. He may drop to the Saints for those reasons, and should be taken over all available players… unless the next (and final) top option for the team is also still on the board.
