Rasul Douglas, CB

At the end of the third round, the Saints dip back into the deep CB class and land WVU’s Rasul Douglas.

Douglas isn’t a perfect prospect. He doesn’t have elite speed, lacks physicality as a tackler, and is an average man-defender. But he has enough going for him to make him an assett at the end of the third.

Douglas’ greatest strength is his ball-hawk ability. He’s a great zone defender who can high point balls and come away with interceptions. In Dennis Allen’s “multiple” defense, he could be a valuable player able to drop back into safety coverage or play up in press at the LoS. The Saints, for all their ability to mirror and cover in man coverage, have struggled to turn solid secondary defense into takeaways. There’s no better way to stay fresh on defense than to come off the field, and Douglas can help them do just that.

In Delvin Breaux, P.J. Williams and Sterling Moore, the Saints have a certain type of player in their secondary. Douglas would give them some more flexability, and another sort of weapon for the defense.
