Round 7, Pick 229: Tyler Stewart, QB, Nevada

I know I started this piece by saying Drew Brees was “ageless.” Well, that’s true… for now. Eventually, all quarterbacks have to retire and move on, and Brees is slowly reaching that point. The 39-year old gunslinger may retire soon, making Stewart’s selection here an insurance pick. The pocket-passing QB from UNR is tall (6’4″) and accurate (completed 63 percent of passes).

Selecting any quarterback in this draft only makes sense if it’s a 6th or 7th round selection. And Stewart appears to be the best and most logical option. Defense and weapons surrounding Brees are the first priorities. But a shot at the next potential franchise QB in the 7th round seems plausible and pleasing to die-hard Saints fans.
