Round 6, Pick 196: Donnel Pumphrey, RB, San Diego State

Yes, the Saints could acquire both one of the greatest NCAA sack-players of all time (Barnett) and the NCAA’s all-time leader in rushing yards in the same draft. Scouts’ biggest knock against Pumphrey is his size. His 5’8″, 175-pound frame most likely will not transfer well at all to the league if he’s used as an every down back. Many predict Pumphrey to develop into an important speed-back who lines up in the slot and in the shotgun formation. New Orleans has missed Sproles ever since hey traded him for a measly 5th rounder. Pumphrey would complete a very talented running back group, featuring Pro Bowler Mark Ingram backed up by Daniel Lasco and Travaris Cadet. Pumphrey is not a need to the team. But he could become part of the cherry to be placed on top of this championship caliber team.
