If available in this round, Carlos Henderson would provide another talented threat for Drew Brees.

Reason For Selection: After the departure of wide receiver Brandin Cooks, most would argue that someone should be brought in to help alleviate the situation. In this version of my mock draft, I have the Saints selecting a wide receiver to not only provide another weapon for Drew Brees but to have another piece in the puzzle opposing defenses would have to plan for.

What Carlos Henderson Brings To The Saints: Despite his size (Henderson measures at 5’11”, 199 pounds), Carlos Henderson is a playmaking threat any team could afford to select. Attributes Henderson has that will generally allow him to succeed despite his short stature, attributes such as general strength, good agility, and speed, and good hands will allow him hopefully a good roster spot come April. In his career with Louisiana Tech, Carlos Henderson totaled 147 receptions for 2,878 yards, and 28 touchdowns.

One aspect I personally am fond of in Henderson is his ability not only to catch passes as a receiver, but to return punts and kicks. In this day and age in the National Football League, teams love athletes that can come in and play as versatile assets. This ability I think will help to solidify his position somewhere in the draft. As far as what Henderson achieved returning kicks, Henderson on 79 returns acquired 2094 yards, an average of just under 27 yards per return.

As of right now, it’s up in the air as far as it goes where Carlos Henderson will fall. Some analysts are having Henderson as early as the second round, but who knows. If the Saints were to draft Henderson, in this scenario he would most likely be used behind Michael Thomas and Willie Snead as the team’s third option. Although Henderson could be compared to Brandin Cooks, unfortunately, Cooks is more gifted. But that statement doesn’t knock the potential and talent Henderson has going forward.
