Sean Payton loves small-market prospects. And out of Lamar University, Langley fits that bill. Langley will be the first Lamar player to ever attend the NFL Combine.

Coming out of Lamar, Langley hasn’t had much chance to go against top prospects. But what he lacks in competitive tape he more than makes for with measureables. Langley is a long, tall, and fast prospect. That fits the mold of the player that Sean Payton has historically coveted at CB. He can play against the tall receivers in the NFC South.

The only question I have about the match is whether or not Langley fits the sort of player that Dennis Allen wants in his defense. He’s ideally suited for man coverage, and Allen likes to play zone. But chances are, a 4th-round CB won’t be projected as a starter anytime soon, and Langley would have time to develop.

There’s no question, in my mind, that the Saints will have an interest in the Lamar standout. He had a very strong Senior Bowl, and the Saints like to snag prospects out of those practices. If they liked what they saw, Langley will be on their board somewhere.

And there’s one more draw to Langley: he returns kicks. Across Saints mocks, analysts are looking for a player that can come in and fix the Saints atrocious return game. Langley returned too punts for touchdowns in his senior year. That doesn’t mean he’s the answer, but he can at least come in and compete for the role.
